The Scapia RuPay Credit Card: UPI Spends & Reward Rules

With credit-card-on-UPI growing rapidly in India, Scapia introduced its co-branded RuPay variant issued alongside its classic Visa card. This allows users to scan merchant QRs and pay directly from their Scapia credit balance. However, the RuPay variant operates under some very specific constraints — especially regarding minimum spending limits — that can catch users off guard.

How RuPay UPI Spends Earn Rewards on Scapia

Unlike standard cards where every transaction earns rewards, the Scapia RuPay variant uses a tiered incentive structure designed to discourage tiny transaction spamming. When you make a UPI payment using your Scapia card, your rewards are calculated as follows:

Transaction Amount Coins Earned Net Rupee Value Return
Under ₹500 0 Scapia Coins 0%
₹500 and above 5% Scapia Coins (5 coins per ₹100 spent) 1% net cash value (at 5 coins = ₹1 redemption value)
⚠️ CRITICAL RULE: Any RuPay UPI transaction under ₹500 will earn exactly zero Scapia Coins. If you buy tea for ₹30, groceries for ₹450, or fuel for ₹400 via UPI scan, you will get no rewards. Ensure your transaction is at least ₹500 to activate the 1% net value return.

Lounge Access contributions

To unlock Scapia's unlimited domestic airport lounge access, you must spend a combined total of ₹20,000 or more in the preceding billing cycle. Many users wonder if UPI spends on the RuPay card count toward this milestone.

Good News: Yes! Your billing statements combine both Visa card retail spends and RuPay card UPI spends. Every rupee spent on either variant contributes toward the ₹20,000 threshold required to unlock your lounge access for the next billing cycle.

How to Link and Use Scapia RuPay on UPI

Linking your Scapia RuPay card is identical to linking other credit cards on UPI:

  1. Open your preferred UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM).
  2. Navigate to your Profile section and select Add Credit Card on UPI.
  3. Search and select Federal Bank or BOBCARD (depending on your Scapia card's issuing banking partner network).
  4. Select your Scapia RuPay card from the fetched list and set a 4 or 6-digit UPI PIN using your card expiry and CVV.
  5. You can now scan any merchant UPI QR code and select your Scapia card as the payment source. Note that peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers to friends' personal accounts are not supported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I automatically get a RuPay card when applying for Scapia?

Currently, Scapia issues its primary Visa card first. Once your account is active, you can apply for the companion virtual RuPay card directly through the Scapia mobile application for UPI scanning.

Are there any category exclusions on UPI spends?

Yes. Just like the Visa card, UPI spends on fuel, utility bills, rent payments, wallet loading, government services, insurance, and real estate are excluded from rewards, regardless of the transaction size.

Can I pay a friend using Scapia RuPay UPI?

No, credit-card-on-UPI protocols in India restrict transactions to merchant/business accounts only. You cannot send money to personal UPI IDs or transfer funds to individuals.
